As all sides toss in bigger antes, the jackpot in the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway sweepstakes is growing larger.
Last week, U.S. Reps. Judy Biggert, R-13th DIstrict, of Hinsdale;, Melissa Bean, D-8th District, of Barrington; Bill Foster, D-14th District, of Geneva; Don Manzullo, R-16th District, of Rockford; Ray LaHood, R-18th District, of Peoria; and Peter Roskam, R-6th District, of Wheaton co-sponsored a bill to amend the way that the federal Surface Transportation Board makes decisions on how railroads can be acquired.
Canadian National Railway responded yesterday by saying it will seek legal remedies in its quest to purchase EJ&E. The company wants to put pressure on the federal government to play ball.
