In the vastness of cyberspace, harassment is in eye of the webmaster

Webster’s New World College Dictionary (Fourth Edition) defines “harass” as follows: “1) To trouble, worry or torment, as with cares, debts, repeated questions, etc. 2) to trouble by repeated raids or attacks, etc.”

Dave Diersen of Wheaton has several times over the past week said that I’ve continued to “harass” him by asking he explain his defense of G. Gordon Liddy. On his Web site GOPUSA Illinois, he took exception to the way I compared Liddy to celebrity domestic terrorist Bill Ayers.

Diersen said that “Ayers fought against America and for communism while Liddy fought for America and against communism.” I’ve asked him to explain which one of Liddy’s proposed violent or actual illegal activities can be described as fighting for America.

You’d figure that after several promptings Diersen would eventually come up with a response. Nothing. He merely continues to claim that I’ve harassed him. If being asked to explain his unsubstantiated charges amounts to harassment in his mind, how would Diersen react if he were really being attacked?

  1. As of today, you’ve been crowned a member of the liberal media elite…congratulations. I wrote a column addressing this today.

  2. Ken:
Yes, I saw Dave’s posting today as he addressed his critics and observed that he labeled me in with the rest of the “rest of the liberal news media …” Not sure how to respond. Will this new designation get me a better parking spot at my office? Choicer work assignments? Apparently, if you criticize Dave Diersen or the Republican Party, you’re automatically part of the liberal news media. Funny, Rush Limbaugh just this morning crowed about how no one has raised more red flags over the past several years about the GOP’s weaknesses than he has. So does this in Diersen’s eyes make Limbaugh a member of the liberal news media? It’s hard to keep track of it all. Thanks for the heads-up about your column today (http://thelonelycenter.blogspot.com); I’ll give it a read. Talk to you soon.
